Doctoral Research Scheme (DRS) And Masters Research Scheme (MRS)

UMP SCHOLRASHIP/FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDENT

1.0   Background and Objectives

Graduate Research Scheme (GRS) was introduced in 2013 to provide financial assistance to full-time Master and PhD candidates in Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

This scheme is an acknowledgement from the University for the excellent academic performance of the candidates and to encourage creative and innovative research outcomes.  On 30^th December 2016, Postgraduate Studies Council has decided to rebrand the term GRS to Doctoral Research Scheme (DRS) and Master Research Scheme (MRS).

Information about eligibility, application process, terms of the award, benefits and responsibilities, are as follows:

2.0  Application eligibility
2.1 General requirements
It is open for current/active FULL-TIME Research Master and PhD candidates. Working Student Scheme (SPB), Research Assitant (RA), Graduate Research Assistant Scheme (SPSS), or Scholarship from other institutions/organisations are eligible to apply.

2.2 Specific requirements

DOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHEME (DRS) & MASTER RESEARCH SCHEME (MRS)- CLOSED 

(The application will be open on September 2021)

 There are two categories for DRS and MRS slots, which are:

MASTER RESEARCH SCHEME (MRS) Local & International Slot

• Academic requirements: A Bachelor’s degree with Honours or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.75.
• Priority is given to candidates who are active in co-curricular activities.

DOCTORAL RESEARCH SCHEME (DRS) Local & International Slot

• Academic requirements: A Bachelor’s degree with Honours or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 AND a Master’s degree with Honours or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
• Priority is given to applicants who were active in co-curricular activities.

 Procedures to apply for DRS and MRS  Local & International Slots

i. Application must be submitted through IPS Online: (https://ipsonline.ump.edu.my).

ii. Student need to fill in the application form and upload all document required before submitting the application online.

iii. Main Supervisor needs to verify the application.

iv. Upon the application completion, an interview session will be done at the faculty level.

2.2.2 MRS ‘Jom Sambung Master" Local's Slot (Dateline for the application: 30 June 2021)

• Applicants must be a local and in their final semester of Bachelor’s degree in Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

1. Academic requirements: A Bachelor’s degree with Honours or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
2. Local students will only be permitted to hold only one scholarship of either MyBrain or MRS ‘Jom Sambung Master’.
3. Prior to applying for MRS, applicants must perform an online application for postgraduate enrolment via http://ips.ump.edu.my.
4. Priority is given to:

• Applicants with active engagement in co-curricular activities.

1. Potential supervisors with active involvement in research and publication.

Procedures to apply MRS ‘Jom Sambung Master’ Local Slot 

1. Applicants must complete two (2) forms, which are:

1. Postgraduate study online application form (*Click Here)
2. MRS "Jom Sambung Master Application Form - (*Click Here)
1. Applicants must submit the following documents:

• Passport-sized photo

1. Certified copy of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and transcripts
2. Faculty recommendation letter
3. Certified copy of other documents or certificates
1. Upon application completion and IPS verification, an interview session for evaluation will be done by IPS.
2. Short-listed applicants of each faculty must not exceed the maximum nomination of four (4) applicants.
3. An offer letter will be issued to the successful applicants after the approval of the Vice-Chancellor.
4. All documents and forms must be submitted to faculty before shortlisted.

3.0 What Are The Benefits?

They entitle the student to a monthly allowance as below:

Note:  

-Maximum DURATION for Master Research Scheme is 2 years only .
-Maximum DURATION  for Doctoral Research Scheme is 3 years only.
-Tuition and Exam Fees are not covered.

4.0 Responsibilities of DRS & MRS and MRS " Jom Sambung Master" Recipients 

• Working hours and attendance observation
• DRS and MRS recipients are responsible for a work commitment to IPS or Faculty for six hours per week.

5.0 Publication requirements

DRS and MRS recipients must fulfil the publication requirements for extension application

5.2.1 MRS Publication Requirements

• Within the first year of sponsorship, MRS recipients must fulfil the publication requirement of at least one (1) peer reviewed article in a journal or an academic conference before being considered for a second-year sponsorship extension.

1. Within the second year of sponsorship, MRS recipients must fulfil the publication requirement of at least one (1) article in a Scopus-indexed journal before being granted permission to submit a thesis for examination.

5.2.2 DRS Publication Requirements

• Within the first year of sponsorship, DRS recipients must fulfil the publication requirement of at least one (1) peer reviewed article in a journal or an academic conference before being considered for a second year sponsorship extension.

1. Within the second year of sponsorship, DRS recipients must fulfil the publication requirement of at least one (1) article in a Scopus-indexed journal or one (1) article in an ISI-indexed journal before being considered for a third year sponsorship extension.
2. Within the third year of sponsorship, DRS recipients must fulfil the publication requirement of at least one (1) a Scopus-indexed journal before being granted permission to submit thesis for examination.

6.0 DRS and MRS Termination

The scholarship may be terminated under the following conditions:

• Suspended or excluded from the study.

1. Change to PART TIME mode.
2. Misconduct or disciplinary offence under the Rules & Regulations of University.
3. Unsatisfactory result (TM) during the sponsorship duration.
4. Unauthorised absence for more than two (2) months. Proper evidence, documents, and a certified work schedule must be presented for external field work.

DRS and MRS recipients should be aware that they are subject to the provisions of the University Constitution and to all the Statutes, Acts, Rules and Regulations of UMP, as well as the Administrative Instructions issued by UMP from time to time.
